Maiya got her first hair cut today! She looks like a big girl now!

Wise Words by Luke

Overheard in the backyard:
Neighbor kid: Shut up!!!

Luke: Dude, you can't say those words here. This is our house, you know, and you have to live by our rules.

Me: Luke, it's 8:00, time to turn off your light.


Luke: But, I'm not done reading yet (he had just started reading "Stink" when he got in bed at 7:40)

Me: How much more do you have?

Luke: About half the book.

Me: You can't read it all tonight. Save some for tomorrow.

Luke: But, I just can't stop myself from reading right now.

Kid talk

I put a bracelet on this morning and Evan asked me what it was for. I told him it was to make me pretty. Without missing a beat, he says, "But Mom, you are already pretty."

Love that kid.

Baggie Painting

One of the benefits of teaching early childhood classes online is that I will sometimes get some new ideas for things to do with my kiddos!

Today, we did some 'baggie painting.' I cut up a sponge and Evan used a clothes pin to dip the sponge into paint and then he dropped it into a baggie.

He put 4 sponges in the baggie and also choose a piece of paper to put in the baggie.

Then, we closed the baggie up and he squished the sponges all around. They made cool designs on the paper, but the best part was the process of creating. He figured out that if he used his knee or foot, more paint would come out of the sponge. Lots of great decision making and problem solving!

Maiya played with a baggie that was filled with paint and then sealed. She "drew" in the paint, but didn't get messy.

Thankful Tree

This is our thankful tree. When we think of something we are thankful for, we write it on a leaf and use a pipe cleaner to attached it to the branches that we found in our yard.

It's on display in the middle of our kitchen table, so we can talk about what we are thankful for when we sit down for meals.
